Congrats for the new bike!
Looking forward to seeing your mods and pics!
Breakout is really a blank canvas you can customize in many different ways, from the all-chromed ones (like mine) to the blackened out ones (like Rocker B) with everything in between these extremes...contrast cut, etc...

I had a scratch under my rear pillion, took it to the dealer on a Saturday afternoon and they buffed it out for me (no charge).
I would recommend OP slowing it down a notch. Take your time, figure out what are the "good" mods as opposed to the not so good mods. Just because someone on here chimes in on "how it should be" or "That's the cool set up" does not mean it really is. Maybe for them but there are varying levels of taste and knowledge in all things.

As for the OP scratching the tank removing the "gaudy" BO emblems with a screw driver...probably not "buffing it out" will fix it if as OP stated the paint and clear coat are scratched. I'm sure he will post up pictures of the bike with a scratched tank for forum opinions on fixes.

Hey guys,

Just picked my new 2016 Harley Davidson breakout up a couple of weeks ago. Weathers finally been picking up around here (60's on the weekends), and I've been able to put about 150 miles on her so far! Enjoying the time on the bike, cant wait for the mods i've got planned.

This is my first Breakout, first Harley, honestly this is my first ever motorcycle. I had ridden dirtbikes my whole life, and rode around on a Big Dog a couple of times. I actually started my hunt looking at big dogs in my area. Made the "mistake" of popping into my local HD store to see if they had any used choppers. I was shown this Breakout, and later was shown a pretty heavily modded one in some photos they had done for another customer. I was hooked! Went to the service department and started building my dream bike. 3 weeks later, papers are signed and i have my bike to ride around until the wheels get in. They will take it for about a week and return my one of a kind breakout to me! I cant wait.

What i've got going on the bike through Harley:

23" front wheel, with new matching 18" rear (Perfmormance Machine Contour Revel) wrapped with Metzelers
Matching breather and brake parts w/ wheels (going contrast cut with these parts)
14" Carlini Menace Apes
All black triple trees, raked 5* for the bigger front wheel
New headlight housing
New handle bar controls
Lowering the rear
V&H Big Radius 2-2 Black
Screamin Eagle Pro Super Tuner

Options I held off on, to complete outside of Harley Davidson:
*In order of significance*
Removing the horn, belt guards, reflectors and badges
Clear turn signal lenses
Curved license plate bracket
Blackline center console
2" Open Primary

I cant wait to get all this on. Although, I have a couple of questions regarding some last minute tweaks I may want to do.

-What is the widest rear tire I can use with the 18" wheel? I know the Breakouts are fitted with the 240mm. But ive seen guys using a wider one without the Heartland Kit?
-Should I ask to switch to the Pirelli's? Any exact size I should ask for with the front?
-The bike is going to be all Black, minus the chrome wheels. I know some people have alot of opinions on colors and schemes. This is what i'm going with, one of a kind look. I am going to be changing the seat out as well. Distressed tan (Bring on the boo's) I do like having the option of the bolt on pillion pad though. Is this still an option with custom seats? Or will I have to go to the lick-n-stick?
-I am 5'8", with average arm length. Will I have an issue with the 14" apes?
-Any additions you fine gentlemen think I am missing?

Any help would be greatly appreciated guys! Welcome to the build, ill keep everyone updated as I go!!

I will post starting photos as soon as I'm able to. I tried posting this on Friday but for some reason it did not post, so I'm holding off on the photos for now.
welcome and congrats- sounds like you have a very fun build coming along. I laughed at the Big Dog comment- I bought a Big Dog Pro Sport (2001, the early FXR-style frame) - and I spent about $10k tricking it out. I still have it but also bought the Breakout- Man cannot live on one cool bike alone

Anyway- a lot of good, knowledgeable members here. Check out the "everything breakout thread" and also the very two top sticky posts of this softail forum- good info on tires, brakes, suspension, etc etc.

the pirelli ND's are hands down some of the best tires I've ever ridden- and this is coming from someone who hated pirelli tires with a passion. but, no 260, so Metz will probably be your best bet and they are also great tires.

you will be tire-brand-limited with the 23" front wheel, so it will be hard to get a matching F/R. Do not mix a radial front with a bias ply rear, that's the main concern. brand matching front / rear treads will work better in the rain, but how many of us ride our BO's in heavy downpours?

Looking forward to pics and progress. good times.

Congrats on the bike. Sounds like a lot of mods to start off. There is plenty you can do to the Breakout. Good Luck.

I got into a very bad thunderstorm once....no place to shelter on that twisty country road. Got me all soaking wet with water running down my legs and filling up my boots. I never ever wanna experience that again....the Breakout was totally covered in dirt but it ran fine all the time.

Congrats on the Breakout. It sounds like you have quite a bit planned for modifications. Like LA_Dog said, definitely check out the 'Everything Breakout Thread'...there's a lot of excellent info there and a great bunch of guys with extensive knowledge.

Wow guys, thanks so much for the tips and kind words! Trying to get my post count up so that I can finally get these photos going!!
Going to be getting on Surdyke to order some clear turn signal lenses. Going to stick with the 1157's in them, not a huge fan of the LED turn signals with all the little lights inside.
