Lower your gearing ifvyour gonna pull 400lbs around...
This is good advice, value-wise. Replacing the rear 66T pulley with a 70T will cost you WAY less than installing cams, while giving u a 6% torque gain. Replacing the rear pulley as above and also the front 32T pulley with a 30T will give you a full 13% torque gain and cost the same or less than cams depending on where you get the parts and who does the install...

Yep, I agree 100%..... probably the best "bang for your buck" performance mod you can make!!!
I will look into the new sprockets. I wasnt aware they were available for these bikes. I have the older FP so I dont have very many options as far as tuning, at least thats what the local shop says. It was their recommendation to go to the Power Commander. As far as the pipes, someone else told me that the shortshot were't the greatest choice for my bike. If I go with sprockets, do I change both front and rear?
HoggyMtnBreakdown, I appreciate the advice man. I just re-read your post and saw the increase with both being changed. I'm gonna look into it and see how pricey it is. I don't really want to put my bike in for cams and take it out of commission so hopefully its doable.

Changing the rear is easy and will give you a 6%+ tourqe increase if you go to a 70t pulley (3% with a 68t). A new rear pulley will run $350 - $500, or you can pick up a used one for cheap (under $100) on Ebay and DIY. The 30t front trans pulley will give you another 6%+ increase and is only around $70, but the install is more involved, got to pull the primary cover. A shop should charge 1.5 - 2.5 hours labor. You can do just the rear, or both for a close to 13% increase!! Check out the LA Dogs "Drive ratio upgrade, HOW TO" sticky/thread at the top of softail page, it has all the info.....

I also suggest doing the pulley swap. Even if you did swap the cams, the gearing will be better because they are geared too high from the factory. You will not lose fuel efficiency. It's win/win.

No worries, man. But it actually wasn't my idea to suggest the change of gearing, as can be seen above.
Doing both the pulley change AND cam swap will give you the best possible power gains for the money without resorting to displacement increases.
You will find all the information you need on the pulley swap HERE, thanks to LA Dog. As noted in his write-up, your new pulley will likely come from another bike model (such as a Sportster) or an aftermarket parts manufacturer. That and so much more is all covered in his thread, so I'll let him take it from here...
