Cruise control
Was it an option before becoming standard equipment?
I'm looking at used bikes, and think I may want cruise control.
Thanks

I only bring this up for the sake of accuracy.... I'm sorry, but you are mistaken...
If you had a cruise control on a 2004 Heritage Classic w/EFI, it was either aftermarket, or a Harley mechanical cruise control unit for the touring models, retrofitted to fit a Heritage. The 2004 Heritage DID NOT come from the factory with a Harley cruise control unit.
Some Touring models were offered with the mechanical cruise control module, starting about '89. The one pictured below was from 2003.
But no Softail models got a Harley OEM automatic cruise control either as an option or standard, until they went to the throttle by wire, in the 2016 Twin Cam models.
FYI, I'm not counting the old throttle lock screw as a cruise control, although some of us used it as such...
Here are the HD online factory parts diagrams for a 2004 Harley Heritage. You will see no "Cruise Control module" in the OEM parts. Notice there is no "Cruise Control" listed in proper alphabetic order.
For the sake of comparison, here are the 2004 Road King Classic parts diagrams, which came OEM with an optional HD mechanical Cruise Control. The "Cruise Control" module is listed in proper alphabetic order. This is what the Heritage parts list would look like, if it came from the factory with an OEM cruise control unit.
I hope this helps to refresh your memory about the Harley factory cruise control..
