Default Compensator Knock?

So my new 2017 Fatboy S is going in tomorrow to have the new 621 firmware flashed onto it.

I just had my 1K mile service done 3 days ago. After the service, I noticed a knock at idle. I hear it best when I get down on the ground on the left side and it sounds like it's come from the primary. I'm going to have them check it out when they do the software. Everything I've googled suggest compensator is the issue.

Since I've flashed my ECM due to putting free flowing exhaustt and intake, I'm now wondering if they're flake out on honoring my warranty even though exhaust couldn't possibly cause a problem with the comp. If they don't honor my warranty, anyone know what this job would cost? If the stealership wants too much $$$ for it, I may just order a Baker and take it to an Indy.

If not the comp, any other ideas what it could be? It doesn't sound like pinging to me. And I find it weird that it's only showing up literally right after the first service. They filled all 3 holes with Syn3.

Kind of pissed off to be having this issue on a bike with only 1K miles on it.

I tried to take a video of the sound but I can't hear it on the recording like I can in person.

My 2016 Softail Deluxe has intermittently made a 'clunking' sound when starting (at times). It turns out that I have noticed it when stopping to refuel. Again, in 1 year maybe 3-4 time. Dealer claims that this is normal (isn't that there reasoning a lot?). They say that it is due to parts being extra hot when they are engaging. I realize that this doesn't exactly address your issue, but was wondering if the temperature issue was the same (idling when hot). Good luck with it.Also, I was told by service department to not put Synthetic oil in until 5,000 mile service-which I did.

yeah i notice it when hot. I'm going to start it up tonight cold when I get home from work and see what it does. I'm not accepting "it's normal" because I know it's not.

If they say nothing is broke, I'll tell them to drain the primary and put Formula + in it and see if that does anything.

Take the Syn3 out of the primary & it'll go away likely.I would change it in the tranny too.

hoping it's that simple. I'll tell them to do that regardless of what they find when looking at it.

what is the issue with Syn3 in the primary and tranny?

the manual does state as much. Just odd that I didn't notice the knock until the first service.

Are they actually shipped to dealers wet, or do dealers add the fluids during initial setup? If the latter, wondering if the dealer tried to cut costs and initially filled it with HD360 20W50

*edit...actually the manual only states that the engine lubricant is SYN3 initially for the 110. It's silent on what lubricant was used initially in the primary and tranny, though it does recommend SYN3 for all 3.

This is the best I’ve ever used. Order one on Amazon and give that a shot, I bet it solves your problem. Syn3 is too thin IMO. Also throw in a quart of Redline Shockproof into the tranny. You’ll be pleased with that as well.

thanks. We'll see what the verdict is when I drop it off tonight for the software flash. I'm leaving it there all day tomorrow anyway so they should have plenty of time to check it out. If they don't think anything is wrong then I'll put different oil in it.

I started it up last night and let it idle for a good 20 mins and never heard it and the motor had a chance to get good and hot.
