I'll try a longer pull in 5th next time I'm out of the city. The front end felt pretty solid at high speed.

I asked the dealer about 6th gear and they assured me it's not an overdrive; they said it was a 1 to 1 direct. Is that not true?

I did read most HD transmissions are 1:1 final drive but the extra gear allows a smaller diameter rear pulley. I think they went from a 70T rear to a 66T on most softails. so the motor may run out of grunt faster in 6th...I'm not a speed rider but let me know how the run in 5th compares to 6th.

"Stockish" Harley engines run outa steam in the upper rpm ranges. If you want "the rest of the power" for your motorcycle, you'll have to spend $$$$ for existing engine upgrades, or invest in the new HD partner, Ducati.

What engine upgrades would you suggest beyond the Stage V Tire Shredder upgrade that I have?

@langwilliams I went out today and had a short chance (due to weather, road, and traffic) to try a longer pull. I got to 110 in 4th so the issue I was having is probably due to rider style. (My wife says I ride like I'm still breaking it in.) I plan to head out again tomorrow, if I get the opportunity I'll let you know how it performs when I get to 5th gear.
