My chrome left side tool box came today and I just couldn't wait to get it put on. Problem was the bracket had to go under the rear fender support. Well, of the 4torx bolts that needed to be removed I stripped 3 of them [:@]. After swearing for about 10 mins, I finally got them loose with a giant pair of vice grip pliers. It took 2 hours to put the tool box on. I am going to replace as many of thetorx bolts withhex head bolts as soon as I can, (if I can get them off).
I really think Harley usestorx bolts on purpose so you need to have work done at the stealer's. The only way you can really get them off is if you have an air gun. It's like getting a muffler at Midas, they weld all the pipes together andhangers on, so you can't replace any of the parts withouttaking itback to them.
I hear yeah. I replaced the allen bolts used to mount my saddle bags to my old XL with regular 6pt hex bolts from home depot. Appearance wasnât an issuesince they mounted inside the bag. The first time I removed the bags to thoroughly wash my bike almost all the allens were stripped. The hex bolts made it (relatively) easy to pull the bags from their rigid mounts when needed.
I had the same problem but i got all of them off but one. When I went to loosen it the whole inside just sheared off. Pissed me off. And the other ones that I took off they also tried to do the same. Its like the bolts are made out of a soft material and when you try to remove them they just strip off.
Yeah, I had the same problem with mine. I used an "L" shaped little torx tool to do it. ....Big mistake. Finally a friend gave me a proper "bit" which I put on a decent tool thingy and they all came unstuck immediately.
So, obviously the trick is to use a decent tool in getting them off.
On my new Heritage one of the first jobs I did on it was take all the rear fender support torx screws out and coat them all in copper slip for ease of movement in future. The MOCO puts some hellish thread locker on thes bolts and they were very verytight to get out. Now I can move em real easy.
