Don't believe anything that dealer says. If the problem with your bike was wide spread, people would be up in arms about it.

All the way around it sounds like that dealer is terrible. There are good dealers and bad dealers but when a bike is out of warranty, your are better off DIY or going to an independent shop.

I bought my Evo around eight years ago with less than ten thousand mikes on it despite it being a 1995 model. I expect nothing from the dealer or the motor company. The problems I have had with have been relatively minor and there have not been many.

The mileage is irrelevant in this case in regards to warranty. I still coming back to I don't there is very much wrong with your bike. You know they lied about one part. Once they said something like that which is without question a lie, nothing else they say should be considered true.

The dealers are not owned by the motor company. They aren't like Walmart.

I was on active duty in the navy from 1989-1995.

update: I have found an independent company who has a great rep for repairing Harley Transmissions, and I will have them pick the bike up and have them fix the transmission... the oil pump Harley can keep, now looking for a reliable company here in Atlanta to fix other issues as they come up....

Good move finding an independent that will shoot straight with you. I had a similar experence with a Chevy truck. Only thing you can do it fix it and ride your money out. I think most of us sympathize with you. A tough situation to be in especially if you have a spouse

Let us know what the indy tells you

Finishing the last bit of my beer as a toast to you for gettin your bike over to an INDY
I'm with that if under warranty, you have some clout. But when it runs out, so should you.
cheers!

Seeing that I have 210,000 miles on my 5 speed transmission, you may be waiting a while.
