Thanks for the tips fellas. I use the freezer trick whenever doing wheel bearings. Will the dealership have those brand bearings or just try to sell you original Harley parts? Glad to hear the rear wheel should be kinda difficult to turn (was hoping I didn't have bigger issues. I'm getting ready to cut the rods and open the cam chest. If I can figure out how to post pictures of my findings I will. And when you say 'if metal went through the pump' does that include on the drive gear side, or do you mean where the inner and outer idler gears are?

Metal through pump gears = trash
Dealer probably only has original INA bearings. You want Torrington bearings.
Dealer also probably wont work with you on lending puller tool.

Got the pushrods cut and removed. Went very smoothly thanks to y'alls advice. Cam cover came off easily. Verdict= Cam bearing destroyed sending bits of the bearing cage throughout the cam chest. Found a pretty good chunk lodged in the breather assembly (wore a bit or a groove in the case but I don't think that will be an issue). Found some other bits in the bottom of the case. The oil pump shaft gear key was in fact sheared off. Not sure which happened first. So far it appears that it should be a remove and replace scenario, but my main concern is that none of the cam bearing made it into the lower end of the crank case. Once the bearing is removed, is there a way to flush the case through the cam opening? I was thinking there is a large drain on the bottom that could be used to flush any debris out from. Also want to flush my oil tank out real well and will be installing new soft lines as well. The end of the cam that goes into the bearing also shows some wear so might be looking at a new cam as well as bearing, pushrods, and oil pump. Better start setting some money aside.

Pinion gear us shot, you got groove in the breather valve area.. You likely need a pump. I've pull the motor and do a complete rebuild or try to find a low mileage take out..

Add: Also cam is shot and you should replace the lifters.

Here's what a sheared key looks like and the carnage on the inner gears.

Figured I'd include a picture of the bike as well so you can see what I'm working on.

I was definitely thinking all new guts inside the cam chest and new S&S oil pump . Do you think a rebuild of the rest is necessary or is that just what you personally would do? I'm not doubting you, just learning. Thanks.

the problem is you don't know where all that metal went...I know the sentimental value is off the chart to you on that bike so I'd pull it an have it gone through an rebuilt properly. You could look for a used low mile motor to swap in to ride an enjoy the bike an have the build done later. I don't know about the possibility of shavings making it to the crank but if it's possible I'd want to check it. have you cut open the oil filter to see if shavings made there?
