The salesman said in full disclosure that he needed to tell me that they were expecting big changes in '18. What's that mean? If he has inside info then I'd listen to the guy. But......
I don't know what the dealers know or don't know. But they are making deals on Softails that they were not making last year at this time in the DFW area. Especially the S models. They were not coming off the MSRP on the Slim S at all last year. I just bought a new Slim S for $2600 under MSRP.
I thought about waiting, but with that type of discount, I got the bike I want, with the motor I want, at a price that I will have no buyers remorse if they do come out with the M8.
If they do put the M8 in the Softail, you can bet they will not discount it for a year or two.
Ditto here with a Breakout CVO Pro Street. $2,950 off sticker. I would sure like to see the M8 114 offered in this bike though. If, and that's a big if, it's a lot better than the CVO 110 engine.
I asked the stealership owner yesterday about an M8, he acted like I was stupid and did not have a clue. Said, no such thing. Funny, for the first time I've gone there in 20 years, he has models $3500 off list price. This guy would not give a penny off to no one, has to be coming from MOCO. Unfortunately, all he had was black dressers, I'm not into that color on my bike.
Trust me, I have a new M8 and a 2017 110" softail in the garage. The softail walks away from the M8 like nobody's business, the difference is pathetic.
In my opinion the M8 will destroy Harley and drive away buyers - it doesn't sound like a Harley at all ... a lot of people bought them dont care about the Harley sound so it makes sense to keep them only for baggers.
My dealership told me in 2018 the softail and the dyna are getting Milwaukee 8 version 2.0 engine.

Just like the Evo and Twin Cam motors before it right?
The reason Harley isn't attracting new buyers has nothing to do with the M8. In fact that motor may end up being their saving grace.
Milwaukee 8 version 2.0 engine. Excuse me for asking but how does that engine (if it exists) compare with the M8 107 and 114? Is it much smaller cubic inch-wise? Is it dual cooled???
