I know Harley guards their new model info till the dealer show at the end of July but usually by this time there is some leaks. Has anyone heard if the new M8 engine will be in any of the SOFTAIL models?
in my opinion, I thought it was lame for the MoCo to limit their new M8 on some models and not their entire line. Includin a sportster version. Than, I figured why not. That led me to think thay there may be a 50/50 chance we may never see it come to life.
If we do, it will be sporadic... May even take a long time.
I'm pretty sure the 110ci is finished so I'm betting we won't see the S models for 18. So maybe yes for the Softails this year.
I know this because the MOCO woman in Customer Service said the factory that makes the engines are only working on M8s which is why there is a problem replacing my 110 engine. Would they do away with 110s for a year or 2 to go back to HO 103 engines only?
Here's a thought Was the S models part of the production to boost sales? Fill a gap in model line up? And to Use up CVO components? Was the release of the M8 partially premature due to EPA? (Fines) Compete with Indians motor? Was the M8 release in the touring lineup a partial consumer testbed Lots of miles racked up by the public?
Too much Conspiracy theory?
When was the last big redesign of the sportster? Look at sales? Demographics?
Lots of ?s so few answers, I guess we will find out come late August
My Bank account will sure take a hit if a softail with a low seat height like the slim with the M8 is introduced This year. LOL
I was at my dealer last week looking to trade my street glide on a 2017 Heritage. They had them on the floor. The salesman said in full disclosure that he needed to tell me that they were expecting big changes in '18. He wanted me to know this because he didn't want me to be pissed if they did make changes. I've NEVER gotten that kind of info before! He also stated that HD told them not to have any softails left on the floor. I am waiting...

Turq,
That's a pretty decent dealer there. I know guys who bought 2016 tourers and were unhappy when the M8 came out few months later.
