So I get my newly rebuilt EVO from Harley and install it into my '94 Softail Custom and within a couple thousand miles it's leaking oil, apparently from the very bottom of the case halves. I'm going to check and re-torque the case bolts to the prescribed 17 ft. lbs (seems kinda loose to me) but if that doesn't do the trick, does anyone have any other insights into what it might be?
Before you start torquing, clean it up and make sure it's there. I going to assume they used the hardening type case seal. If it truly is leaking at the joint, it probably had a low spot or maybe burrs holding it off. Doubt you are going to pull it in. Not like there is a gasket between the halves.
I though Harley rebuilds carried a warranty?

They did, in '04 when I did mine
At least when I did mine on a '96 Springer. 12 mo/12k miles

I thought Harley discontinued its Evo remanufacturing program a couple of years ago and only sells Twin Cam long block replacement motors now.

They did ... last one I did I had to do on my own, and I'm in the process of doing another one ... sounds like more information is needed to find out who did the rebuild and what really is leaking .. could be from elsewhere and migrating to the lowest point
Good thoughts...I'll clean the whole thing up real well and ride it; maybe I can get the leak to reveal itself if it's not the case halves.
I haven't put anywhere near 12,000 on it, but I took the old motor out and put the new one in myself a while back; longer than 12 months. I doubt the dealership will honor any kind of warranty.
