Well I was installing my new Todds's 10" x 1.25" Strip bars today & all was going well. I got the throttle side done & figured I'm home free know as that side had more connectors to run through. Well I got to the last 90 & Murphy showed up. My guitar string broke. I can't pull the wires back & I have nothing to pull forward with. I can't see the wires, but felt the connector with a ram tool. I tried a couple ramming items, a snake no luck it's stuck.
I'm afraid I'm going to have to drill an access hole, but I'm up for any suggestions.
Well I tried the compressed air with gorilla tape, just made a sticky mess. Then I grabbed my HF magnetic grabber
that I previously cut the end off of as it was never good for anything before & started ramming the snot out of it & it finally broke free . Taking a break before going at it again with a new heavier guage , not used Guitar string
when I installed my bars I went to Lowe's an got a 36" ceiling fan chain...it had to weight to slide down the bar...but it would catch on the sharpish turns in the bars when I tried to pull the wires with it so I got so I had to tie a shoe string to the chain an tie/tape the string to the wires. I'm thinking about an internal throttle since I don't have wire throttle an will have to do it again.
I keep 100 pound + single strand stainless fishing leader material around for this as well as many uses in the gunroom clearing up things. For the next time! ;-)
For future reference weed wacker string works awesome. That's what I always use.
Thanks, but I think that will be the last time I do that as these are my last bikes & the 2 others are already finished. Happy with the bars, even more happy that it's over
Spray non chlorinated brake cleaner in the open end when your ready to pull.. wires will slide thru the bars like a hot knife cutting butter. I always use D strings and haven't had a problem yet using this method.i do quite a few sets a year for people. I like wiring for some reason.
