Default 18 heritage engine oil amount 5 quarts?

So I was reading the owners manual and it said 4 quarts but my bike took a full 5 quarts on side stand hot. anybody finding the same? dealer says 4, book says 4 bike took 5 with filter change of course. drove it and rechecked multiple times and 5 quarts put's it right on the happy line on the dipstick.

btw I did the street cannons no flash and it's growing on me. Sounds good if I flog it hard, but I stay between 2200 and 3 most of the time. Im learning to appreciate this bike in a different way than my past Harley's, I think Thingfish knows what Im talking about...

Yeah, I go back and forth...love riding my Dyna with all the snort and fuss, then I get on the M8 and its very different, refined but beefy and I love that too. Very different bikes but the sweet spot feels good on both. I will say at 75+ the Dyna is glass smooth, the M8 has more pulse up there but in a good way. I don't know if I'll ever figure it all out but I know if keep comparing them back to back for the next 100,000 miles I'm going to have helluva a great time riding.

As for the oil, dealer did the 1,000, then again when adding the stage 2 around 2000. I'm at about 3700 total but haven't changed it myself yet.

I have checked it at 500, 900, 1500, 3500 and I will say it's always been exactly right on the stick and it still looks brand new like clear gold. So far I'm pretty happy about that.

My owners manual says 5 quart on the 18 Fatboy. Getting ready to change it for the first time so I'll know soon enough.

2018 Owners Manual page 28 Table 10. Capacities

FLSL, FLDE, FLFB, FLHC, FXLR, FXBR, FXBB, FXFB

Oil Tank with filter** 5.0 qt. 4.73 L

interesting, you all should check your oil levels after the 1000 mile service. I checked mine at about 2500 miles and it needed oil. Either the bike uses oil or the service tech only put in 4 and a half quarts because it was not nearly full enough. Added half a quart and it was at the full line (sidestand cold).

My first HD got the first 1,000 mile service at the dealer. After service, I pulled the stick and no oil showed on the stick at all, as it was a full quart low.

Never again.....
