I saw this on youtube and you can see that you can take the bags out by reaching your fingers for the red lever outside without accessing it from the inside.
Go to 40 seconds on the video to see it in action.
The bags are flimsy and small enough to not really be something people would want to steal. The red flag indicator has been in use on touring bikes for a few years.
More alarmist bullshit. Maybe a person should keep their bike in their bedroom and never ride it because something might happen to it.

Which year model touring bikes use the RED flag because my 2015 sure doesnt have one? Are you referring to the side reflectors? Im not sure if you have ever seen the bike in person, but the bags can hold as much stuff as the regular touring bags. It may look smaller, but Im able to stuff my leather jacket and riding pants in one of bags. You can easily defeat the system without even using tools which is shown in the video. The engineers should have thought about that when designing it.

I saw this too. Sort of defeats the purpose of having ‘locking’ saddlebags when anyone can just flip up the lever and walk off with you entire saddlebag.
I could be wrong, but I believe with the bag locked the release bar cannot be activated from the outside as shown. Worth checking out in person though.

I seen them in person and I looked over the bags a lot. From what I seen if locked the red flag won't pull up. The bags are a lot larger inside then they look.
Definitely changes the appearance and gives touring or just local ridding look and utility. If the bags locked can't be removed than a non issue. I like the overall look either way.
I think the bags are a good size for a commuter bike an recreational rides. it's not a touring bike.....but they def felt flimsy but good enough for their purpose I guess. It's still the only M8 softail I'd be interested in.
