My only question besides cost would be how long would it take?
If you are referencing my post, the guy said he would turn the Speedo around in one day after receiving it and his warranty on any repair is 12 months. He said that he has never had one come back after he has made the repair. Truthfully, I'm frustrated enough by this on going problem that I never asked the cost nor do I care frankly! A permanent solution is worth a lot to me at this point! I paid much more than what this will cost to replace all the gauges in my Street Glide with after markets to correct the same problem on the bagger....
Rode my Heritage today for the first time since the new speedo and the dessicant packets were installed. I noticed that over the electronic display area there was a more pronounced, “film like” material covering the area. I can’t tell you if such a film was there on each of the previous speedo....I may simply have never noticed.
Now my question is....is this the fix, or is this the problem?
If is wasn't for bad luck I'd have no luck at all.
So when I hadn't had any condensation issues over the last 22,500 miles on my new Fat Bob, I was kinda freaked out.
I ride in the rain a lot, and sometimes the rain is so bad everyone but me pulls over to the side of thd road.
But I had no fogging in my speedo!
Until today. I checked my speedo while riding on the highway and the RPM area was fogged over maybe 50% obscured. It wasn't raining but it was a little humid withno sun.
I thought about it for a few miles and then I remembered that a defogger/defroster in a car just heats the windshield. So I placed my whole hand on the glass and tried to warm it up with my body heat.
After three miles, the fogging was gone!
I suspect we either need a heated speedo or maybe seal it and purge it to make a vacuum. Or fill the speedo with a dry gas.
I hope the fogging doesn't come back. My speedo is digital so if it fogs over much more I won't be able to tell how fast I am going.
Thinking along the same lines I have stuffed the big gap under the console to stop cold air hitting the speedo.
Or hot air, dry air, moist air. The damn thing always fogs up anyway.
Let's see what happens!
Used this stuff
To fill this gap.
2 minutes work and easy to remove
Well, my new speedo/dessicant experiment has failed miserably. After about 100 miles this new speedo is fogged worse than any previous one.
I give up....I don't know what is going on.
How long have the dry packs been under the console? Mine took about two weeks before they absorbed all of the moisture and the speedo stopped foging. Give them time to work.
My bike is parked outside under a car port so I don't have any significant change in temperture between when parked and when out to ride. If parked in a cool garage it may contribute to moisture infiltration. It may take longer for the packets to absorb the moisture out of the speedo.
