Unhappy Love the bike. Hate the seating position....

I have a 2015 Fat Boy Lo... I love it. But after 200 miles today I want to burn it.

I bought it used with almost no miles (2600kmts) a month ago. With the stock seat my butt would hurt after 10 minutes. So I bought a LePera seat. My butt now hurts after 30 minutes. Much better but not great.

I had plenty of time to ponder today while trying to make my ride bearable... and I realized its the seating position, not the seat.

I am 6'4" and my knees are higher than my hips when riding. I am also not thin at 260lbs...

Are there any options to move the controls lower or farther away? or the seat higher? Or should I just bite the bullet and trade it for a Touring? I love the bike itself... really love it. I can ride to work (25 min away) and arrive with a smile every day... its just the longer trips.

Thanks for any help.

14" apes and a Mustang seat with back rest really improved my comfort level and stamina. Stretched my back out by moving my hands up and the back rest took the wind pressure off for longer rides.

You might check into "extended" floorboard kits.
Here's an example on revzilla;

hth,

Nice!

I bought a small piece yesterday to delete the rear shifter as I never use it and it keeps me from moving my left foot rearward... floor board relocation would also be nice. thanks!

Do you have extended forward controls? They might help a lot.

Do yourself a huge favor and test ride a Road King, may find things seriously to your liking.

Im 6'3" 230 lbs with a 34 inseam and Ive owned a 04 Sportster 1200 Roadster, 04 Road King Custom, 05 Fatboy and 11 Road Glide Custom. None of them fit well stock and all needed a few tweaks to make them more comfortable for me.

Granted IMO my Road Glide was the best handling and most comfortable of them all and had it not been for a back injury I would still have it, but i sold it because I did not think I would be able to ride any longer. Post surgery and 2 years of PT and rehab and I had the chance to buy back my 05 fatboy for a lot less than I sold it and the buyer had only put about 1200 miles on it..

Anyway back to making the bike fit you and comfortable. On the bikes with floorboards, I added floorboard relocation kits. They move the floor boards forward anywhere from 1-2", There are also ectended floorboards that HD and others sell these with a relocation kit can move the floorboards close to 3" forward and some move them out as well
https://www.jpcycles.com/harley-floo...elocation-kits https://www.shoputahharley.com/produ...SABEgKFU_D_BwE https://www.ebay.com/bhp/harley-floorboard-extensions

next get an extended shifter and brake pedal so your not crowded on the floor board https://www.harley-davidson.com/stor...-07-4263803--1 https://www.kuryakyn.com/products/51...d-brake-pedals and IMO remove the heel shifter so you can use the whole floorboard https://www.jpcycles.com/harley-tour...er-eliminators

it that doesnt do it for you a seat change or adjustment and bars will finish off the modification. Ive tried Corbin, HD and Mustang seats and ended up with C & C Fastback seats on my fatboy and Road Glide this seat drops you about 1" and back about 1.25". Contrary to the Harley approach to tall riders on their "Tallboy seat" of raising your position to make you more comfortable Ive found "down and back' works better. Another option is there are companies that will mod your seat to what you want, add gel or memory foam etc. Or find a local upholstery shop and have them pull the cover and shave it for you on the bike to custom fit it to what you need.

Then when you have you riding position set get bars that put you in the position you are most comfortable. For me it is "cruiser" position sitting more straight up with my elbows level with my hands. Im not a fan of "apes" but if they work for you great. I have ended up on the fatboy with Wildones 504 Dresser bars.

id recommend making the mods in that order or you may find things dont work well . Get your legs out first, seating position second and then bars to match the seating position.

On my fatboy with the floor board extenedrs, extended shifter and brake pedal, C&C seat and Wildones bars Im able to ride full to empty tank, fill up and stretch out for 5-10 minutes and do another tank of gas. ive done a lot of 400+ mile days easily on it and the same for my touring bikes after getting them to "fit" me

Finding that sweet spot takes some, being on the short side I had a battle of my own, my height. I went with 14" apes and it put my hands in a nice spot, comfortable for the long haul. The factory bars were to low, and I was already use to apes from my Dyna. Because I needed to be moved forward and down, I decided to send my factory seat out for modifications, 1 .5 down and 1.5 forward and shave the sides down, its perfect and I have all day comfort.
Mean City Cycles, you owe it to yourself to have their Memory Foam Mod done to your Fatboy seat., Its night and day from the factory. I found a great deal on a factory take off seat for my 05 Heritage, I sent it out to have them do the same thing to this one, I hated having to put the passenger pad on and off when I went with the solo look, So now I just swap seats.
Get the bike where you feel comfortable, and definitely do yourself a favor, Mean City Cycles.
I will say this as mentioned above, C&C Seats makes an incredible product, I had the Sport Tour on my Dyna, loved it.

Definitely check out the floor board extensions. I also saw that they make floor board re-locators as well. Can't remember who makes them but they not only move the floor boards out but they change the angle as well. Hopefully this helps.
