Will I run into issues removing this emblem from my fuel tank? Is there any kind of mounting flange or alignment holes or bracket on the tank or will I be able to remove it and have a flat smooth surface?
As far as Ronnies microfhice, your badge doesn't show a backing plate, and further googling, show its attached with double sided sticky tape. but don't take my word, do some googling. http://partsfinder.onlinemicrofiche....0NAME%20PLATES
Here's a tip-use monofilament fishing line tied to a stick at each end for a handhold, sort of like a garotte. Pull the line back an forth behind the badge, maybe using a little Goo-Gone (NB: NOT GOOF OFF! GOOF OFF will probably damage the paint), and then use the Goo-Gone to remove any residual adhesive.
How do I know this? I had my Heritage (in Morocco Gold) in storage in a warm but dehumidified garage for a couple of months, and the right tank badge had fallen off all by itself, leaving the adhesive in place on the tank. I removed the adhesive with GooGone (NOT GOOF OFF!), rewaxed, and it looked perfect-so I did the other side, too.
YMMV-try the GooGone (NOT GOOF OFF!) on the paint in an inconspicuous location, and if all is OK, go for it!
Goo gone didn't even touch the tape that was left after badge was pulled off.
Did not work for me. A lt of people have good luck with it.
My go to is WD-40 and a soft cloth. No damage and works fast. Just keep the rag soaked.
I use denatured alcohol and a plastic wedge and patience. Keep it wet and slowy work pulling it off. Whatever is left use your hands to rub it off using alcohol.
I used an adhesive remover, 3M I think (but any should work {READ the label first).
My 17 Deluxe came off using the fishing line trick.
Pay attention to try and keep it as close as possible to the badge as you can.
Use the adhesive remover to remove the sticky crap.
Makes it easier to polish the tank back up after your done.
