Red Key light indicator on...and i did search around
so saw yesterday that I had the red key light indicator on. so got on here and did some searching and found how to Diag it.
this light came on after putting Red LED bulbs on the bike. so after some looking I figured out it is the red bulbs I bought for the rear turn signals.
reason for the question is I do have the Custom Dynamics Smart triple play module on the bike so I can get some strobe on the rear lights to be able to be seen better.
my question is do I need their Load Equalizer to get rid of the red key light and keep the red bulbs? new with some of this stuff and not sure how to go about this.
the only time the red key comes on is when the turn signals are used.
if I put the old incandescent bulbs back in it does not throw a code.
Have you called Custom Dynamics yet? I have heard they are pretty good, have their tail light. I have also heard that you run thru your light switches ie turn signals on, emergency flashers, etc so the ECM learns they are there.
Do you have LEDs in your front turn signals as well? I've got a 2007 Deluxe and when I put Custom Dynamics LEDs in the rear bullets along with the smart triple play, like what you're describing, everything worked fine. But once I put Custom Dynamics LEDs in the front signals as well, I started getting the hyper flashing/odd behavior other people have complained about. Finally figured out is seems you can have LED in the front OR rear without a load equalizer, but not both. Once you do LED front and back you will need the equalizer, at least on the 2007 Deluxe. I added the CD equalizer and everything's working fine now.
I have the red key light too in my '06 Deluxe. LED bulbs and Kuryakin load equalizer/brake light flasher gizmo. It says in the documentation that this will happen and there's no work-around. This is a 4 year old device. Don't know if things have changed, but the red key light has caused no issues that I can tell. I know what it is, so it doesn't bother me
On a 2007 Heritage, you will need a load equalizer/Smart Signal Stabilizer in order to run the Triple Play and not get that red key light coming on. Later Softails with CanBus electrical systems (2011 and newer) don't need the Signal Stabilizer to run our LEDs.
Basically, your flasher can tell how much electricity is being used on the turn signal circuit. The Triple Play itself does remove load from the turn signal circuits. Plus, you have LED bulbs, which also draw less power than the stock incandescent bulbs.
