Hello to my friends on HDF
Hope someone can point me in the right direction with the starter on my 00FLSTC 95, 33k
Been riding the bike since January with no starter noise but now it is worsening. When I start it makes a clunk.....sounds like it may not turn over but always does and starts on the first attempt. Im concerned that it will strand me somewhere. Anyone got ideas what that clunk could be?
btw the motor purrs like a kitten when Im riding, everything seems great except for the worsening clunk
Thanks
Thanks Clammy
I read some old posts on the starter noise. Im also noticing that it happens on a hot motor more frequently and she almost doesnt turn it over then she catches and starts. Im thinking battery as you are. J&P already has my order today. I killed my battery last month leaving the switch on overnight. The simplest fix is battery.
thanks for the advice

Always the first thing to check out, for sure. Hopefully, the new battery will do the trick.
Battery or loose connections. Mine starts doing the exact same thing about when the battery is going on 4 years. Also, will kick back or fwd when starting making a terrible bang. Keeping a maintenance charger on it does not help when the battery is worn out. All that will do is make sure it will start at home and leave you somewhere out in the boonies.
Thanks Guys, I think you all got it. I let her cool down had dinner then went out to start her up. Cool motor to the touch and one crank and off she went with no damn clunk.
Seems to me when an 88 gets a SE big bore kit from the dealer when it was new it will always need a high performance battery.
