Actually you can tighten the cap first, torque the axle nut, then loosen the cap nuts so that the right side slider moves into its correct position.

Torquing the cap first would not cause this issue, the position of the slider on the left side relative to the rotor is determined by the stack up of the bearings and spacers.

I`m wondering if the shop installed the bearing on the right side first...

I was just throwing it out there.
By the wear mark it doesn't look like the lower fork cap is in the same position on the axle as it was before.
Tightening the axle with the cap tight is going to pull both fork legs towards center.

I called the shop yesterday just to throw around some ideas and this is exactly what the tech said, the guy that pressed the bearings may have done the right side first which can cause and ever so slightly but not detrimental misalignment. They told me to bring up the wheel sometime and they'll check it out. I'd take the whole bike up if it wasn't near zero right now.

I noticed that too so I went back and checked pictures and it was the same as before taking the wheel off. It's not a wear mark, its like a casting mark or something.

OP: keep in mind that if the shop removes a bearing, it must be replaced...It cannot be reused.

Mystery solved, everyone can now sleep at night. The bearing wasn't fully seated, no surprise there. Caliper and everything lines up perfectly now.

Wow, that's a pretty bad mistake by the shop. Imagine if you'd shimmed the caliper and ridden for any distances with it like that...

Glad you got it sorted out before there was any collateral damage.

Cheers!

I doubt it would've done anything not being fully seated, but hey, all it took was a faulty washer to blow up the Challenger.

Well, if it wasn't fully seated, that would mean there was space between the spacer and bearings inside the hub. I would think it wouldn't take too long for the hammering inside to destroy the hub/bearings, or cause some other failure.

Either way, best that it's installed correctly now.

Cheers!

I hope you fixed the spacer between the bearing at the same time you reseated the brake side bearing!
You said in a earlier post that the spacer was tight which would mean that your spacer between the bearing
is too long. I thought both bearings were to be seated on the shoulder of the hub so there would be no possible
lateral movement.
