Softail wiring questions-Can someone tell me what this wire is?
Hello. My 04 FXSTS has an aftermarket tank and original owner disconnect Speedo and indicator lights. Ive found both wiring harness under the tank...good thing so I can connect an aftermarket Speedo, however in looking at the wiring I found a wire with what appears to be a sensor at the tip.
can anyone confirm what this. Part of the wiring is connected further down but this wire is not.
here is the pic

The only yellow white stripe wire on the bike is the fuel tank float level. That looks like a spur off the sending harness. There are 3 wires for tank float. Orange, black and yellow white stripe if I remember. Does your gauge work?
thanks for confirming! no, actually, it is not functional, the former owner removed the tank and never replaced the fuel gauge.
i also have another strand of wires which i believe is the speedo or indicator lights. (i gotta get a bike manual so i can read the wiring diagrams)
thanks again!
Purchased my Softail manual and from the likes of the wiring drawing this would appear to be my Speedo harness (7-8 wires inside the sleeve) Can someone confirm as some of the Colors dont match my drawing (might be covered in dirt)
appreciate the help! Looking forward to installing back an aftermarket Speedo !
Wiring harness underneath the tank. (No connector)
