Default Oil from the air filter 07 flstc

I recently changed over to a K&N filter, I also have a PCIII and V&H pipes. I noticed during the last 2 weeks oil dripingbelow from the air filter. Initially I noticed slight oil spray over the chrome oil tank. I'vehave taken the air filter off andI notice the air breather holes there in the filter where its obviously coming from. Is this very common?
I had a dyno recently and it is well tuned, I may have been running a bit lean prior to the dyno. Would somebody be good enough to explain this situation and is there anything to worry about. How much oil is too much.I also noticed rust building up on the inside of the air filter chrome cover, something other riders may want to check out. Many thanks.

Check your oil level, youmight be a little on the over full side. When you are over full on the engine oil it will carry over to the air filter. Someone else may chime in and explain why and how this works, I just know this is what happens due to experience in the past.

Later,
Dan

Plenty of explanation of blowin oil and crankcase ventillation in the sportster forum. My sport will puke oil like that. Haven't seen it yet on my carb Fatty. Keeping the oil level down a bit is easier than cleaning the air filter of oil.

Had the same problem with my 2002 FLSTC. Took out a little bit of oil, cleaned and re-oiled the K&N filter, and the problem seems to have stopped. Good luck.

Just for clarification - you should have two little rubber hoses going to the intake of the bike. If you can see the bolts with the holes in them then the little rubber tubes are missing. You need to have them on there so that excess oil can be burned in the engine.

I'm not being a smartass - just making sure that those are on there.

It's easy to overfill the oil tank when you change the oil. On my '05, the book calls for 3-1/2 quarts. If I add that much, the tank will be too full because I don't scavenge all the oil from the system. Speedking's right though, if the two hoses are missing, it will make a mess.

I have that problem if I fill the oil to the top of the full mark on the dipstick. If I keep it at around the middle or 3/4 mark, no problem.

Cheers!

The reason your bike is blowing the oil is because that is where your bike breathes from. All the pressure that the engine produces is released through those holes. If you are running or going to run a high-flow kit, i would not use the new style that blows the oil back into your carb. I wouldpurchase one of the older set-ups that connect the two breather holes together and has a spout coming out of it from the rear of the set-up. This way you can run a hose from it directly under the bike that way it's not all over your bike or sucking oil into your carb. To get an idea of what i am talking about, maybe this will help.
