Howdy all.
Have all of 33 miles on my new 07 springer. The front brake is weak, at best. Is this because of the springer front end not being able to handle too much torque from the caliper assembly, so they left the single piston assembly on there or what?
I noticed the rest of the softails have 4 piston calipers up front, but we got stuck with a measley single.
I've got 310 miles on my Springer now and am getting pretty used to the brakes. I was a bit concerned at first, but compared to my Sportster with a single piston rear brake and 2 piston front, versus the Springer at least having a 4 piston rear brake, I feel like my stopping power on the Springer is a little bit better. I have not tried any quick stopping yet since I'm still in the break-in period, but it's still better than I expected.
That being said, though, when just using the front brake on a slow approach to a stop, I definately have to be more careful about my distance with the Springer over the Sportster.
After having a single front disk and a rear drum on my last bike, my 06 FX Spinger stops just fine. I haven't done it for an emergency, but the stopping power is there. No, it's not the nosebleed braking you get with twin disks up front, but it is strong when needed. It will lock up the front tire if you get into it real hard. That's all that's needed.

Swapped out to steel braided lines and felt a little better.
I had read some things on the forums about switching to steel braided lines helping. So it does feel like it helped out with the braking power for you? It does make sense that a more rigid line should help a little. Does it feel like the upgrade was worth it for the braking power you got out of it?
as with any brake line steel braided is going to be better do to less expantion, were in a rubber line expands more making brakes feel spungy! I feel it would be a good upgrade do to quicker brakeresponse with steelbraided it wont make a world of difference but it will help.
