I am wanting to add a USB charging port to my 2012 Heritage Classic. I would like to mount it on the panel right under the spot light toggle switch. And pull power for it from the same switch. That way it will kill power to the USB when the bike shuts off. I am not able to find anything related to the amp draw on the spot lights. I am figuring a dual 2.1amp (4.2amp at 5v) would pull between 2.5 and 3 amps to power it. Will this be to much for the spot light circuit?
After a bunch of reading and Google searches I found what I need to do. I need to use HD part number 72673-11 to attach to the P&A accessory connector (325B). This will give me a switch power lead (15amp). The connector is under the seat/left side panel. All need to do is run a 14ga wire to the front to hook up the USB power ports. I think I will put a 10amp fuse inline also.
You have circled the diagnostic port or data connector for your bike.... I thought you were about to make a big mistake hooking an auxiliary power connector to it...
Then I read the install instructions for the Electrical Connection Upgrade Kit you referenced...
Wow, I never knew you could use the data port for 15amp fused auxiliary power on a canbus softail (Dyna & Sporsters too)....
Granted, my softails are pre-canbus, so this kit you are using is new to me... Thanks for the education...

I didn't know either. Been looking for a way to have a switched USB port for a long time. I do the battery tender way now. If I forget to unplug my dashcam the battery will drain in 3-4 days. Hard on batteries.
Yea I only use mine for my phone (GPS & Music) so it comes off the bike when I park it. My dash cam (GoPro MAX) runs on it's own power.

Exactly what I did. Works great and makes it so easy to add. Wiring diagram shows you what color wire to use for either power source (always powered by battery or controlled by switch).
No splicing required except when connecting USB charger to the pigtail.
NICE! This is what I'am trying to achieve on my '22 FLHP, however I want to install on opposite side nacelle cover as there is an existing hole with a rubber plug in it. Would really like to install USB type C connector. Has anyone done this?
