My dealer told me if I change my oil to anything other than Harley Davidson oil it would void my waranty. Any one ever had this problem?
That's BS,federal law says thatthat if the oil your using meets the manufacturers specs they can NOT deny you coverage under the warrenty. In fact, I believe thattelling you thatis aviolation of federal law.
So from now onI would be very careful to indipendantly verify anything he tells you. He obviously hasn't read the rules yet.
The Moss Magnasun act states that a warranty can not be voided because of an aftermarket part unless that after market part causes another part to break. The whole warranty can not be voided. For instance, if you put your pipes on and then your transmission goes out they can not deny you claim based on after market pipes, one thing had nothing to do with the other. Now if you put a PC III or even a SERT on your bike and then you EFI system goes out, then they can deny your claim because a non stock part could have caused the problem, but it is the responsibility of the dealer/ manufactuar of the vehicle to prove that your modificationscaused the malfunction do deny the claim.
Also along with this is that the manufactur can not make you use thier fluids or filters unelss they provide them for free. As long as you are using a fluid that meets or exceeds manufactuars specfications your just fine.
i would be going to a different dealer and telling the anger of the last dealer what happened and why you will never be spending another penny in his establishment. trust in the dealer/customer relationship is paramount, and if they break that trust, how can you go back there and believe anything else they tell you?
