Default Cam Shoes

Took my 2000 FXST with 37K to get the cam tensioner shoes replaced. Just got a call from the mechanic and was told the outer looked good but the inner had about 200 miles and then it would have been completely gone! Good thing I took it in when I did or it could have cost me some $$$$.

Tell him to replace both, unless you totally trust him. Fine to him could be 400 miles.

wow great timing!
Are there any signs to look out for excessive cam shoe wear? or is 37k the time to get them checked?

I had my cams changed at 38K with gear driven cams. Tensioner shoes had very little wear, less than the thickness of a dime. No more worries about the tensioner shoes anymore.

I have heard some guys polishing the chain to prevent excessive wear on the tensioner shoes for the primary. This was related to the primary chain. Is this the same or is there a separate cam chain too...

Nice Scoot!! I like the wheels. Considering those. Do you like the Mustang seat?
Sorry to change the subject. On that note though, as I just stated on the 203 thread, my shoes were 1/3 worn at 9000 miles.

I'm having both shoesreplaced along with the cam bearings due to my being an early model twin cam that has been known to have failure problems. I'm also having adjustable push rods so that in the next year or so I can add some cams when I have the available $$$$. Before I do that I want to put another 20K or so on the bike.

I changed mine a 30k the inside one was chunking found a couple small pieces in the cam area. It is a 2000 model Deuce, I would advise at least a look at 30k.

What is a good way to check the inner shoe without removing the cam plate? I checked my outer about a month ago and just took it in on a whim to have the inner looked at. Not sure if there is a fool proof way to see the inner shoe.
