Default Engine oil check procedures

Official 2011 FLSTC owner’s manual says to idle the motorcycle for 2 minutes *UPRIGHT and on level ground before checking the oil (on the jiffy stand).

Official 2011 FLSTC service manual specifies to operate the motorcycle *leaning on the jiffy stand* for 2 minutes prior to checking the oil level (on the jiffy stand).

Which procedure is more correct, and why?

Both say to check while on kick stand

I'm willing to bet there won't be a dime's worth of difference on the dip stick whether 2 minutes run is upright or on stand

Check it both ways and let us know if any difference

I read that as on the jiffy stand.

Have you looked what it says on stick. It probably has an upright mark also. Lot of modifications are done on these bikes like lowering them.

I wouldn't idle it since that not enough rpm to get all the oil into the oil tank in two minutes if it has set weeks.

That's OK to get a rough reading say if you have an issue with oil loss to know it safe to ride.

Mine sits now. It takes few miles to get the oil back normal. Check it hot, from say a 10 mile ride, upright, to the upright setting on the stick. And to the full mark.

Done that way, and normal good motor with no leaks will be fine till next oil change probably. Still need to check it occasionally, however of course.

When it's right, I can pull stick and see oil couple inches in the tank. However back when mine sat 3 months, oil wasn't on stick. After 6 months now, bag is empty. And running, you only recovere about 20% more then pressure side of the two stage pump puts out.

PS.. Welcome to the HDFORUM. Only as a suggestion, make another new thread over in the newmember welcome area to say hello.

The oil will drain to the reading level once the engine is shut off.
Either works.

FWIW
My take, the operate/ idle engine in an upright position is Obsessive-Compulsive.
Nothing wrong with that.
For example, I start and let my bike idle/ warm up while on its side stand
