Default Harley Footboards

Anybody know how to take the footboard insert out of the footboard frame without breaking off the little rubber nipples that go through the holes in the footboard frame? I want to get the frames and brackets chromed but can't get the darned inserts out. There must be a trick. Thanks!

Use a real slick substance such as a soapy mix and put it all around the nipples. Then use a phillips screw driver and push them up one at a time through the holes. The more slimey the better. Then put them back on the same way. The rubber pull through is gone and you should use some needle nose to pull them back through. Good luck

I just use a flat blade screwdriver and push them up through. Use the blade on the outside portion of the nipple, not the inside. Usually takes putting the blade in 2 places around the nipple.

I would definately use some liquid soap. Then squeeze the nipple together and push it through.

Yep.. just a lot of liquid soap and some water will do it. Had to pull mine to install cruise arms.. Soap works wonders. Same for putting them back in.
