2001 FLSTI
Happened in our Virginia home.
Least in VA now, new doors come with the safety cable and springs have a double closed loop.
When mine broke, the end of the spring was embeaded in the sheet-rock wall. It was the old style spring with a open end.
Luckily, it broke with the door down and no one around.
I even have a small safety wire on the loop now just in case.
If you have the old open loop spring, run a safety cable and securely wire the end for sure. That's a lively break point and it going to fly off with considerable force.
And of course without the safety cable, the spring will fly down from one end or the other.

Got it on the lift yesterday and ran thru the gears. Frist thing I noticed was that the right hand side exhaust was very hot while the left stayed cool. I know I had just started it and should have took it out for a ride to worm up properly and then check but it did run for about ten to fifteen mins going thru the gears up and down, and it was still the same. Trying to see were the ticking noise was coming from. Removed the spark plugs and the front had wet treads the rear was dry. I will be replacing them and the cables with new ones. I'm thinking that this is were the issue is and why I'm hearing that ticking noise. Looks like the spark plugs wires are past there life and the plugs need to be replaced. I ordered new cables and will be picking up new NGK plugs and taking it out for a ride and see if I hear the ticking again. Pictures of the plugs
