Default Dry Ice For Dents

I posted this response on my last thread titled "I Think I'm Going To Get Sick" after I dropped a solid wood door down a staircase onto my Scoot's gas tank, but figured I should start another in case someone didn't see it, and might have a dent or two to take out.

"Ok,
After doing some research on our homeowner's policy, it would be best not to go that route. I tried the dry ice thing today, and it actually worked somewhat. It's much better than it was, but still noticeable to me. The problem is that the only place to get dry ice in town sells it in these little bite size pieces instead of a solid hunk. I think if I had a small solid hunk it would make more contact with the actual dent than holding up these little pieces with a glove. I can see that the dry ice thing would probably work great on smaller dents. I'll see if I can find another source for dry ice. I would love to just order a new tank right now, but until our old house sells, finances are as tight as a snare drum. Thanks all for the sympathy and advice!!"

For dry ice call welding supplyshops. If they are a good and busy shop they usually carry it. It is required to safely weld on containers that held flammable liquids.

Try a hair dryer and a can of computer cleaner/air to lift the dent.

Call a PDR guy, paintless dent removal if you can't source the ice or get it out further.

The dry ice trick is also famous for causing the paint to pop off a few months down the road.

It works great. If you get one of those large extinquishers with a horn shaped nozzle on it, you can cool singles. The nozzle slips right over a can.

I tried the dry ice to no avail. Got it at a liquor store...All the PDR guys I called said they could get dents out of fenders but not gas tanks...

Bodyshop is your only hope. Once a dent forms it leaves ridges around it's perimeter. Nothing short of a hammer and spoon ( spoon shaped metal working tool) will take it out. Even then, filler or the very least high build primer is needed to smooth it. Was a body mechanic in my last life.
