What performance diff can I expect from going stock 96 to 103??
06train...you aren't kidding. It gets kinda crazy fast. I was having this same conversation with a buddy of mine that has a street glide and wants to bump it up to 95. For the costs of all this motor work we decided we could pick up a nice Huybusia (?), and have a bike that will give you for thrills than you can handle. Harleys are what they are, and although I cann't imagine having anything else, there are tons of bikes that will out perform it...for a whole lot less money. Those other bikesmay get there sooner, but they won't look near as cool after the harleys show up
If your are looking for numbers out of a machine that was intended to be a cruiser in the first place, there will always be a compromise. Whether in comfort, ridability, reliability, or longevity, not to leave out financially..., it will always be some compromise. It's a cruiser. Really not meant to be hop-up-able in any easy fashion. But if you do succeed in getting the "numbers" up to some three digit levels, it won't stop there. For instance, thegas mileage will very likely go south to the point where your only concerns will be how long a ride is it 'til the next station. Why, the fuel tanks are not big enough to support rides that get low to mid twentymile per gallon rides. Let's face it, your not going to be "conservative" on the throttle with a hot rod.
Your dollars per mile of enjoyable rides will increase exponentially.
I guess the point I'm trying to make is there are cruiser type bikes out there that will out ride any Harley on all points... right off the show room floor. They are known as Warriors, VTX's, Raders, M109's, etc. , etc. And, let's never leave out the proverbial V-Max. These bikes are all proven and available for less than half the cost of any big twinHarley with a stage 1, and still out ride the most hopped up Harley you can ride on the street. And, they all have warranties!
Don't get me wrong... I can understand the emotions that surround owning and riding a Harley. I'm just suggesting to think aboutemotions toward high power number expectations will lead to compromising something. The question you may have to answer is what are you willing to compromise. Otherwise, it just mighttake the fun out of it.
