I'm going to replace my standard's oil tank with a chrome one onFriday, anyone have any advice? I've already put new O rings and retainersin the chrome tank, and I've got the manual. Any helpful tips?
mo didnt you say b4 you was gonna gowith a color matched one ,after you saw mine painted to match? it realy dont matter ,i mite be mistaken. as far as the removal/install diconeect battery, drain oil,etc etc lol its an easy job take yur time
mission accomplished.........removal was only about 40 minutes. Whole job about 3.5 hours. I went ahead and installed the chrome transmission top cover I didn't attempt to install when I did the rest of the chrome engine kit, so that took a little while, and I spent a little time tracking down an oil leak. Seems I didn't tighten the hose clamps on the drain line elbow at the tank and the next junction down tight enough. I thought I had them pretty tight, but to stop the slow seeping of oil, I had to really crank down on them. The one at the junction of the rubber elbow and the tank was a bitch to get to with the tank installed too. I finally got to it with a screwdriver with a 24" shaft. Hopefully the seeping is fixed; I'll know in the morning if I see a puddle.
Are you planning on lowering it? I need to lower mine soon, I can't stand the motocross look on mine !
I would like to lower it, but I'm going to go with the Progressive 422's rather than just bolts for the rear.I'm no small fry and I don't want to compromise the rideability with constant bottoming out. i don't know about lowering the front, i'm not sure anyone has different springs available for theinverted front end.Might take a little home brew engineering........

Looks great! I've often considered changing out the oil tank on my Train, and like you, I have the chrome trans cover that needs to go on as well.
BTW, I have the stud rear lowering kit on mine, I don't have it slammed as low as it will go, but i've ridden two up with 450lbs between the 2 of us and never bottomed out.
