I'm about to install a solo seat on my 07 Fatboy and I'm not sure what to do about the thinclear plastic strip thatseems to protect the fender fromthe original seat rubbing. It's been there since I bought the bike and I've never thought about removing it cause I ride on a sidekick seat that covers it up. The thing is that Iplan toswitch back to the sidekick seat on occasion, when my wifewants to ride with.I'm sure I'm not the first person toface this dilema,so does anybody have any advice? If I leave it off, will my sidekick rub the paint/finish off?.... I expect itwould.I guess I could keep it and try to reapply when I revert back to the sidekick, but there's gotto be an easier way..... right?
When I got my solo seat I took it off, didn't even think about itride 2up
once in awhile not a lot but I have no problems... Peel it of use some goo gone
to get off the sticky crap you're done... but it's really up to you.
I ditched mine.I now have a Corbin seat which is a 2 piece seat. Most of the time i use the solo only but occasionally i stick the pillion seat on and no dramas.I suppose whatever seat you use just check it isnt rubbing on the fender.
My rear fender still looks pretty good for a 4yo bike and there is no rubbing from the pillion seat with the setup i have.
I bought a replacement and plan on mounting it to a thick piece of vinyl as use a protector whenever I put my two seater back on. I figured I'd use a couple of small pieces of double sided tape to hold it in place. When I go back to my single seat I could remove and reuse.
I left mine on, doesn't bother me a bit and I switch my seats around often with a couple of different combos. My last HD didn't have it and the paint did get damaged from riding 2 up.
When I run a solo seat many of the guys I ride with say they wish they had it for when they ride 2-up.
Hey stinkfist...I took mine off when my Corbin came in and have not had any issues concerning paint damage. However, I must add that I have only ridden solo, not two-up. I personally don't think it will be a problem to remove it.
tk353 - that's a great idea, just stick it to the bottom of the seat instead of the fender. I've bought a couple and taken them off/put them on the fender as I switched between solo and 2-up. But the stealer hits me up for $12 - $15 every time I buy one. If I just stick it to the bottom of the passenger pad instead of the fender, I'm done. Great idea!!!
