Default Springer FX Pre-Purchase Questions

I'm very close to purchasing a left-over 2005 FX Springer. For those of you that own the bike, I love the look of the bike, but is this a good choice for short trips with the wife (1/2 day trips)? I plan to put on the Sundowner saddle and Sissy Bar. Is the skinny front tire impacted by pavement rain grooves? OVerall, is this a good bike?

I own a 05 Springer and I don't regret the purchase one bit. I ride solo and I have taken short trips and long trips with it. I still have the badlander seat on it and once I got used to the feel of it, it didn't bother me either. I have taken it down the freeway at freeway speed and on back country roads that have a lot of turns and switch backs with no problem there either. I really enjoy the nostalgia look of the springer front forks and what more can I say, I like my Springer. By the way, no problems with the narrow front tire either.

Thats a hard question to answer, everyones opinion usually lies with the model they purchased. I love my springer, and I bought in Sep'05 new, and dont regret it. It rides like a dream, the added weight on the forks makes for very stable turning, especially with stock bars. The stock seat is not the most comfortable thing in the world but it sounds like you already know that. Ive ridding numerous people around on mine and have had zero complaints. GET IT !!!

Thanks for the input. Love the way the bike looks and the local dealer has a good price (relatively to a new 06) on a leftover 2005 model. I really want the bike to be able to take half day lunch runs with the wife and am concerned about her comfort and the stability of the bike. Appreciate your input very much, as the dealer near me won't let me demo any of the bikes!!

I only hear good reports about the springer from mates that have them. I have a standard with the skinny front tyre (tire in your lingo ) rain, grooves etc... are no more of a hassel than what they were on my fat heritage front. We don't ride them hard enough to notice the difference in braking and the theory is that skinny fronts corner better (again we don't ride hard enough to prove that theory).

Do they have rentals at the HD? When I bought my Fatboy I could not get a new fatboy out on the road but they did let me take one of the used ones they were selling out... And were I looking for another kinda bike they would have let me run one of the rentals.
