CrossBones Bars dont bite
#41
I just got a 2010 crossbones and the exact same thing happened to me - hit a bump doing 60 on the highway and my bars slipped 4 to 6 inches back toward me.
Took it to the dealer and they torqued the bolts. We'll see how it goes...
Maybe I'm just paranoid but it seems like the bars and riser are still too loose.
Anyone else still having this problem?

Yes. This is a common problem. Not just with the crossbones but many scooters. First off, the crossbones bars are not chromed. The outside finish on the bars is softer than chrome. Second, sometimes the pipe compresses or the risers stretch. Quick fix is this. Clover lapping compound. Choose one of the course grits. Loosen your risers clamps around the bars. Pull your bars up and smear a dab of course grit Clover lapping compound between the risers and bars. Do this on both sides. Clamp your bars back down and tighten to proper torque specs. Wash the mess off with a pressure washer or pressure hose and you're good to go! Used to do this on my flat track bikes. Lotta times you can go to a machine shop and they'll have several tubs/cans in different grits. Pass 'um a five for a tablespoon full. Keep the excess in a small container in your toolbox. Put a dab on your screwdriver tip or inside a socket or allen pocket when you think it's stripped. Might get a grab on it after all. Works like a charm. Hope this helps.

I have this issue as well. Had the dealer tighten twice. Been searching for new risers. Alos looked at potentially using the Alloy Art Gooden Tight Spriner Bushing part number (597124) I came across on Dennis Kirk website. Was wondering if anyone had any luck or used this product?
