I recently purchased a 2000 Heritage classic. My first HD.
I have MANY questions.
Where's the best place (not stealer) to get oil filters? Air filters?
Service information?
Add-ons? etc.
One thing I'm interested in - from experience with other bikes - is a gauge package that I could install without spending a fortune.
Tach, ammeter (volt gauge) etc. maybe a more accurate gas gauge.
Locking gas cap.
I've seen chrome switch housings, I like!
Custom air cleaner covers etc.
I also have a 2000 Heritage. Bought it brand new. It's been a great bike. Only problem in 8 yrs was a defective turn signal module replaced under warr.
Most indy's stock Harley filters. I run Amsoil (avai on line or locally - Check prices)
I am very fortunate to have an independent shop (probably the best in the area) in Campbell (about 3 miles from here)
You can run gages, but it's not really necc. Harley makes a gage pack.
You can get a Speedo/Tach combo that replaces the stock speedo.
At times, I've wanted to get a bagger, but until I'm doing nothing but long distance touring (500 mi+ per day) this is a great all around motorcycle . . . For 300+ days too.
so what about mileage? 28 MPG isn't exactly what I'd have expected.
Is the transmission and oil two seperate reservoirs?
I've ordered a service manual.. Haynes.. until that arrives I have no idea about anything.
I've owned metrics all my life..
I also want to check and see if removing the SE stage 1 will get some of my mileage back
From: West central Illinois in the Mississippi river bottoms
Yes you have three seperate oil holes 1 Engine oil 3 !/2 quarts with filter Oil tank under seat filler on right side 2 Primary chain Inspection and fill plate oblong cover on left side of engine on the bottom 3 Transmission dipstick on right side top of transmission

Thats pretty low millage. Is your bike EFI or Carb? Either way, if you put the stock air box, filter and pipes back on your millage will stay the same unless you either re-jet the carb or re-map the EFI.
Im going to guess you have a carb bike that really needs to be re-jetted. I will bet that your bike is tuned way to rich.
