What's the best way to measure my cables for the correct length for my 12.5" apes? I think someone said they used +6" on their fatboy with 12.5s, but I really need to make sure I get it right the first time. Would they be the same on 99 Fatboy as they would on a newer bike? Do I just hang my old cables on the new bars & measure the difference?
Thanks
Frank
Ok, I've got the new bars on,(just for fit up), & I've got the brake & clutch housings dissassembled & bolted back on the bars. It looks like +6" will be enough for them, but I'm not sure if it will be enough for the throttle & idle cables. I don't know how much slack to figure in.
BTW, how do you disconnect the steel elbow fittings from the throttle/idle housing?
+6 cables are what is recommended for 12.5's, if You still want to be positive call your dealer and ask.
my dealer was of very little help, they were gonna charge me 1.5 hrs. of labor, put the bike in a mock set up ,blah blah blah i did it myself w/ help from everyone here.especially mojo jones
the hd catalog has most of the stock sizes of all your cables, brakeline, clutch
throttle, idle take that # + whatever distance your bars exceed good luck

Just keep wiggling them while pulling down and theoretically they will come out. I've had two that refused, and I destroyed them while removing them.

Thanks mojo. They came right out. Now to get the gas tank off. Anything I need to watch out for, or certain order things need to be done in doing this? I hate suprises, especially when the suprise goes flyin across the garage & you don't know where it came from.
If you have not bought them yet try this place. Johnny will set you up with the correct size and he also has the wire extensions. I was more than happy with his service and the cables fit perfect on my deluxe
