Default Help needed re Wimmer Spike

I have a Wimmer Spike air filter and breathers installed on my 2006 FB CVO. After a REALLY hard ride last week, the bike (and the guy behind me - sorry) were covered in oil.

Took the bike to the dealer, they siad it was just excess oil "mist" coming out of the breathers, and there is nothing that can be done. Had a look on the Wimmer site, and they have two possible solutions:
1. The new filters have a butterfly valve internally which will eliminate the problem

2. Install a "puke can" and empty is as required.

My questions are:

1. Can the butterfly valve be retro-fitted on my older air filter setup, or will I have to replace everything?

2. To install the "puke can" it seems like I will also have to replace the breathers (looking at the web site), which is quite expensive. Can the drainage setup for the "puke can" be fitted to the standard breathers (ie by replacing the flat bottom piece which is removed when replacing the filters)

3. Will replacing the filters on my existing breathers solve the problem with the oil splattering? (I'm hoping it will help, as I have never replaced the filters before - didn't realise I had to, until this current problem prompted some research).

Thanks for your help

Julie

I clean the filters on mine once a season. If they get saturated, they will mist.
It's very easy, just drop out the bottom plate, take them out and wash them in gasoline until all the oil is gone. Stick em' back in and go..
If this doesn't cure the problem, then I would investigate what causes heavy oil misting from the heads. I know the problem points directly somewhere, but I can't remember the cause right now.. It's not your breathers, it's your engine. The breathers are simply not allowing your engine to re-injest the oil mist and hide the problem..

Thanks George,

I'll give that a bash and see if it helps.

Only other problem now is that when the dealer installed the breathers, they stripped the tiny allen-key screw thingy that hold one of the bottom disks in place - I guess I'll have to drill it out and order a replacement? (The fun never stops hey!!)

Morons..
Maybe you have a hardware store who carries that stuff. If not, then call Wimmer.
Hopefully, just cleaning the filters does the trick.
