My dealer is telling me they no longer recommend the Power Commander. They are now pushing the Harley Race Tuner. It costs $400 + and requires Dyno time for another $375. It is not part of the bike and is only plugged into your ECU during the tuning process. It has your serial number programmed in. Every time you do anything to your bike you need the device and more Dyno Time. Theoretically you must carry it with you in case anything goes wrong. Its all about getting your dollar!
This is one of the biggest reasons I just installed the Thundermax ECM w/autotune....runs great with the new pipes.... now I can tune the bike myself....no more dealer, yeah!

A Major Motorcycle Magazine has actually published an article stating that with the new Harley fuel injection system, you can install a set of high flow pipes and a high flow air cleaner and that the stock system will compensate for the changes....

If he is only going to install pipes, he has nothing to worry about

I stand corrected and have to thank you for giving me info I may need in the future. Thanks for not thinking I was being a "know it all"

The new PCV has an optional feature called the Auto Tuner. It consists of a different oxygen sensor and wiring. It automatically adjusts your bike to whatever you do. Good only on the the 09 Harley. When I installed my PCV it wasn't available yet so I went the fuel map route. I plan to look into to it down the road. According to my PCV service center its only an oxygen sensor and some wiring that has to be routed to the power commander.

I might just as well put the slip ons on and see it runs any different. If it does start poppin and fartin then I guess I'll make the other necessary changes.

Just go ahead and buy them and put them on, after you ride it for awhile you will be able to tell if you need to do anything else to the intake.

Stop nibbling on the bait and take the hook hehe. You're gonna end up doing it anyways. Well, I did a lot of research myself and given that the bike I purchased was already too expensive to "not remap" I waited until I had enough $$$ to do the stage 1 as well.

From what I read you can probably get away with just putting on slipons but that's not to say you didn't just relieve a lot of back pressure changing how your engine performs.

This can be noticed (probably too late) when your pipes change color, back fire (pops on dcel) etc. If you can live with that, go for it.

As for the long term affects of not remaping, no clue.

I rode mine that way for about 3k miles never noticed anthing bad. it was really lean. I did the filter and everything at the 5k service. It was like riding a different bike. Ran much stronger after.

I called rush, and had a pretty educating conversation. I bought the slip ons. They say just changing the pipes or changing to their slip ons will make the bike sound better but not give you better performance. He said you will think you are getting better performance because it will sound better, but you are not. To get better performance you have to add the extras. I put on the slip ons, and love them. Bike sounds great, and no problems.
