I took the bike out yesterday for a short 50 mile ride and put the bike in the garage when I got home. I forgot my camera in the saddlebag and went back to get it about 1/2 hour later. When I went in the garage I noticed what looked like oil under the bike. I put my finger in it and it was kinda oily but smelled like gas. I got out my flash light and discovered it's coming from what look like a vent tube but I can't see where it goes.
Here is a picture of the tube...it's right in front of the rear fender on the left side directly below the seat. I hope this is normal but kinda strange that it happened yesterday for the 1st time. I went out this morning and the spot was gone. I don't normally go back into the garage so I don't know if it's been happening all along. I rode today and purposely went back out after putting away and there was again. Anybody know what this is.
On a better note.....what a beautiful weekend for riding.
Mine does it from time to time as well. I have posted pics of that tube as well. Don't sweat it. Probably varnished fuel. It's a vent hose from the gas tank, but the liquid has an oily feel to it and a gas-like smell. Mine has done it occasionally since buying the bike 3.5 years ago. I drove myself crazy at first. I took it to two dealers trying to find a leak. No leaks, no problem.
Thanks. I know it's not from over filling since I always fill on side stand and usually stop about a 1/2 below bottom of neck.
Overfilling! if it looks like overfilling, smells like overfilling, and feels like over filling ,the chances are its over filling ............thats why the overfill tube is there..........relax.......

Nope, trust me I always stop below the bottom of the next since I don't like gas splashing back onto my paint. I'm kinda have OCD with things like that. LOL
Plus, if it was caused by over filling then it shouldn't still be doing it 100+ miles later.
Seems to me that several people have expressed the same thing is saying that its an overflow tube. But you still disagree which is certainly your prerogative, and since you KNOW its not from overfilling and walks like talks like theory doesn't sit with you it sounds as though you need to take it to the dealer to have them troubleshoot it.
.........OVER-FILLING Mine did it a couple of Times I asked the
Dealer and they said OVER-FILLING ...
Never Happened again
Just Ride it a Few Times not puttin Fuel-In and see if it Stops

Let us know what they say for future reference.
Not trying to disagree (well I guess in a way I am. LOL) but just trying to take it out of the equation since I know I didn't over fill.
I would have bought the overflo thing if it only happened yesterday when I filled up but not today when it still happens with under 1/2 tank.
Now one thing I forgot to mention. Yesterday and today the bike sat for over an hour in the sun. It's been in the high 80's both days. Any chance sitting in the sun could have built of pressure and caused fuel to get into that line?
