Question HELP me fix my mess please.

Well, this weekend I finally decided to install the chrome lowers I bought about a week ago. Everything was going smooth until I went to install the drain screw on the left lower. I torqued it just a tad too much and stripped all the threads out. After talking with the dealer yesterday and listening to them tell me NOT to Helicoil it I decided I would helicoil it and I did. It seemed to be working and looked like a nice fit until I had everything put back together except the wheel installed and noticed the fluid is leaking from around the drain screw. Its leaking without any weight on the wheel. Not good. I guess this is a good time though to know its leaking rather then while doing 75mph.

Other then my dumb mistake this is a pretty simple job.

Any suggestions short of buying new chrome lowers?

I would drain it and use silicone sealer on the screw. Let it dry before refilling. If it works you'll be able to take it back out when you change your fluids again.

Problem is the little washer won't cover the helicoil area. The best repair would be a flanged threaded insert, blue loctited into the lower. Then the copper washer will seal. The other option is to use a larger washer up against the lower so it seals the outer area of the helicoil.
Next time step away from the torque wrench and just snug it up firm and no more. This is one such flanged insert I was referring to.

A timesert it was I actually went out looking for, and came home with the helicoil. I was thinking this would work because the washer actually does cover the entire helicoil area. I cant really tell where its leaking from, wether its under the washer or between the screw and washer. My guess would be under the washer. I guess tomorrow Ill have to go order a flanged thread threader insert. I hope I can find one that will slide right in the area I already tapped for the helicoil as Im coming close to running out of area. When I drilled and tapped for the helicoil I noticed I tapped a little of the bottom of the inside of the lower leg.

Thanks for the help and I really hope I can get it to work, without having to buy more lowers.
