I have the factory alarm on my 08 FXSTC and my wife has one on her 09 FLSTN. I was working on my custom and had the key fob sitting 5 - 6 feet away and when I went to sit the bike uprite, the alarm went off. I had to put the bike back on the jiffy stand and grab the key fob and get it closer to the bike to get the alarm to shut off. This happened 3 times.
It seems that the alarm is so sensitive, last night I was in the garage and I turned the handlebars from all the way to the left to all the way to the right and the alarm went off. I had to run in the house and grab the fob.
My wifes Deluxe however, I can walk across the street and yell at her to start her bike and it will start. Shouldn't being that far away keep the bike from starting?
I believe you can set the sensitivity on the security system. I have an older bike with a push button fob so I don't know the exact process, but get a service manual and check it out.
Take her bike in to the dealer and let them know whats happening. That system is supposed to disable the bike unless the fob is within several feet, not yards.. My 08 ultra has to have the fob within 6 feet.

Why do the two have different sensitivity?
I would be more concerned with the distance on your wife's alarm system. I have the older button-fob. But...If I had the auto-alarm...I would like it set much closer than across the street.
The way it is now....If your wife is in a restaurant or motel room...someone can start her bike outside....Too far for me.
check with the dealer or service manual...
I wonder what is the 'normal' range for most bikes? I'll ask some of my riding buddies but I think 'across the street' is too far.

My 07 FXSTC sensitive as well....i think its because the Custom is a more desirable bike to nick...just think of your wifes Delux as the "sacrificial lamb"
