When I ride (which is rarely due to the non-ending rain lately) I find that my arms are fairly straight with little bend at the elbow. I would like to move forward a bit, or get the handlebars a little closer.
Someone mentioned moving the bars back a bit, but I don't know how much closer that will bring them before they just start getting lower. A friend told me to look into a Sundowner seat. I really hate to lose my semi-backrest that comes from the passenger pillion.
Does anyone else suffer from being short, and what did you do?
Have you tried loosening the bars in the risers and rotating them back a bit?... granted it might lower the grips some... but it might solve the problem...
If you just need a couple inches you could just move your bars back a bit. That's what I did. Still doesn't get me to the sweet spot but it'll do until I get new bars or a new bike. The wife doesn't have this option on her Deluxe so we have to get her new bars.

I just got a sundowner for my Sportster and I don't think it really moves you closer to the bars at all. It's a little thicker, so you're moved up and back actually. Personally..I'm not a fan of it. But my wife hated the stock seat. But they're interchangable.
Sounds like I need to try moving the bars. Has anyone done that themselves?
It's easy but I recommend buying or borrowing a torque wrench. Never a big believer in them till I got a bike. Now I torque everything I can. Loosen 4 allens on handlebar clamp, move bar to where you want it and re-tighten. Rear two first, then front two. 08s were 12-15ft lbs. Since they changed the bar a bit in 09 would'nt want to assume 09s are the same so maybe someone can confirm it. You'll also have to adjust your throttle and brake clamps to the new position. Need torx bits for that.

I almost forgot to mention that our floorboard brackets can greatly affect your comfort level on the bike as well. They spread you out a bit, taking a lot of the pressure off of your lower back. Check out our site. I was jsut talking to a good friend who put them on an just returned from a 1000 mile trip. He said that he was far more comfortable than before in every way. Obviously I have these on my bike too and really dig them, but I am yet to do anything more than 200 miles in a day with them so I will not comment.
