Thanks guys, but for some reason the lock on my bike doesnt work on the new grips I have so since Im getting ready to hit the road to the Outer Banks from Ohio i need soemthing thats reliable.Appreciate the advice.
Tear apart the control box on the throttle side. See if the pin in there is sheared off or if the black plastic plate is missing. I got everything to rebuild mine last weekend for just over 10 bucks. deff worth it.
just my opinion, but I won't use the thumbwheel lock.
at least on my bike, I tried it once, but to get the dial tight enough to hold the throttle without slipping, it also meant that I could not close the throttle easily in an emergency.
I have the same bike as you and have been wondering about the Kuryakyn as well.
I have been using the Breakaway. it's a really nice piece. CNC machined. many people have asked if it came with the bike, it blends in so well. it activates with a push of your thumb and operates by clamping down onto an internal cylinder attached to the grip.
plus, it has an instant thumb release of the throttle, and it also releases immediately when you pull the front brake.
I have had mine on for a year and have been extremely happy with it.
only downside I can think of is it might not work with modified or replacement grips, as it has a cylinder inside the release mechanism that locks onto the rubber of the grip.
it is definintely not cheap, but well worth the conveniences and piece of mind from a safety standpoint

I use a "Throttle Tender" on each of my bikes and they work great. Easy to overide if necessary but since I'm careful to use it on straight stretches of road without traffic it has never been an issue. Can't beat it for $10.

Hey thanks for the advice , I bought the rebuild kit last weekend for $10.65 and in the kit was the pressure plate that my bike never had from day one brand new. When it did work I would have to crank it down so hard it was a pain in the butt so when I replaced the grips and it didnt work I wasnt too disapointed over it .But now its working great , not a lot of pressure required to set it and I can adjust the throttle up or down while riding. Gonna make the trip from Columbus , Ohio to the Outterbanks trip a lot more enjoyable.
