Hey, I'm not trying to hurt anyone's feelings or step on any toes, but 14 grand for a 106 and a 6-speed is highway robbery. I would hope that if I posted something like that, someone would tell me that seemed high.

I've been overthinking my build for a long time now, and keep bouncing back and forth between a 95 and a 107. With the 107, I'll never want for more, that's for sure, but a well-built 95 is nothing to sneeze at. Neither my daughter, my future wife, nor I are big people, so the 95 would more than likely be fine, but a 130/130 107 is just so tempting.

I'm very curious to see who you're using Kevin. Regardless, Dave's reputation speaks for itself. You won't find a negative comment about him on this or any other forum.

That's too much money for sure..

Couple of questions...
1) You said S&S stroker kit.. Are they supplying a new stroker crank as well cuz I never saw that on your list.. For that kind of money they should be..

2) You said the 95" lacked bottom end take off.. Did you ask the builder what cams were installed? Cams will dictate the power range and that includes bottom end.. I've got SE211's as does Chaz.. Those cams are geared more for mid-top end pull.. Bottom end is a little weak especially with a 2-2 pipe which is why I run a 2-1.. It doesn't fix everything but it does help the bottom..

I've got a 110/110 motor and I spent a total of $2200 in parts..

I think the shop has a decent reputation here in the Northern Virginia area. After working with at least 5 different shops (I wanted something local) I settled on Pure Hell Customs because of the time they took with me to explain things. It is highly possible that I've not accurately represented the work being done and that could be the cause of the sticker shock for some. But, as all that goes, I've already made the commitment and down payment and I'm sticking through it to the end. I've been screwed before so that's nothing new, I just get the feeling working with these guys that they'll do me right.

We based the estimate on the list price of the components but the final component price will be discounted. This built in a little buffer for my budget. The estimated price for parts is about $10,300. Estimated labor is $3900.

The basic list of parts includes:
106 Kit (S&S Stroker Hot Set Up)
Cylinders
Pistons
Oil Pump
45 mm Carb (Mikuni)
Ignition module
Timken bearing
Pinion shaft bearing
sleeve kit
intake manifold
fuel valve
S&S Clutch
Baker 6-speed transmission

The labor accounts for a little over 40 hours based on the shop's rate.

Does this really sound that bad?

Yes, it does sound that bad.

You can get your stock heads worked, an S/E 6-speed is going to cost substantially less than a Baker, you can find far better labor rates than $97.50/hr., and I'd imagine that you can do a little better on the other stuff as well. You're also paying a premium for the S&S stuff.

Now with all that said, Pure Hell has a great reputation. I've never been, but people I trust with my life give John and his operation the thumbs-up.

It's a 4-5 hour ride to Bethlehem, and Dave's labor rate is (I believe) $68/hr. It's not exactly local, but I know it's where I'm going for mine.

Cool. Dave may have been someone I'd have checked out if I lived near Bethlehem. Local to home and work really is my only option and I think I found the best in this area. I'm looking forward to the final product. I'll definitely let you know what I think after a few miles.
