Before I ever brought my new Fatboy home, I had the dealer install V&H straightshot slants with a K&N filter in a V&H breather. And, bought the race-tuner to have them remap it. Since then, I've had it back in for the 1K mile service. I told them the new pipes backfire at low speeds when down-shifting or at times when up-shifting from 1st to 2nd. It doesn't seem to matter whether the bike is just warmed up or been ridin all day. So, they re-mapped it to richen the fuel for the fuel-to-air ratio, but it's still backfiring. I love the way the new pipes sound...right up until they embarrass me by backfiring! Anyone with a similar experience? or have a suggestion for a resolution? ...would really appreciate your thoughts on this.
I hope someone else posts a better way....but what I would do (and I would actually do this) is bring it to a Known good tuner. If the dealer couldnt correct it in 2 shots...I'd go find another tuner with a very good reputation.
I realize that some "known good tuners" could be in some cases in another state! But thats what I would do.....
Save my money, find one, call him and tell him whats up.....he might tell you to change your plugs and wires to be sure it's not a damaged plug or wire. But in the end I'd bring my ride to an expert tuner and get away from the steeler......Good luck with that......
A little bit of Decel pop can be expected but there should not be any when accelerating. I would take it back and tell them to map it right. Let them take it out and see what kind of "Quality" work they are doing. Lets see some pics of your bike
Dont go back to the dealer. All they are going to do is tell you it needs to be dyno'd and charge you out the *** for it. Find a reputable place and get it done on your own. You'll save $$$ and get better results.
mine did that and needed more fuel at zero throttle setting..if it pops when you let off gas, try giving a little gas to see if the poping stops.. my tuner had to change some of the voes numbers( i think thats what he did)
Thanks for all the help. I have a friend who races a Destroyer and has volunteered to have his mechanic look for a leak or an O2 sensor unplugged. all good suggestions on stuff to look for. This guy is also a tuner. So, that's the next thing in order. I was at a shop recently and heard one hooked up to a Dyno and I don't want to put my new bike through that just yet...brutal. Many thanks, again. Glad to know I'm not alone in this.
