Default Coil relocation under gas tank?

There is a company that makes a bracket that relocates the coil under the gas tank for softails. It mounts the coil above the intake manifold between the heads.
Is it too hot under there for the coil? Maybe the life of the coil would be shorter?

Look in the "DIY Cheap Mods" section. There is an write up in there. Also do a search for coil relocation. There have been a few threads recently about this. I plan on doing it when ever I get off my lazy butt and get around to it.

Chop On,
Robert

I have seen the coil moved where the horn is and in front of the rear wheel but never heard of someone putting it under the gas tank.

Yep i have seen that one but J&P sells one that mounts the coil under the gas tank. I checked it out and the coil fits there(kind of tight).

But I am not sure about the heat since its close too the heads and in a cramped space.

I met the guy from Exile last bike week when I was puttin together my Fatboy. I did his stuff but like chrome more than burshed. He took the time to come out and check out my stock bike and we talked about my plans for it. Nice "bloke". He suggested relocating the horn and coil but I choked when I found out the price of his kit? $100 buck each - a bit rich for this red neck. The shop that did my work used my old Vmax horn and fabed up a bracket for much less and we tucked the coil behind the splash guard and the horn between the splach guard and the passanger peg (It's black so it blends in but it's there) . Not the mod if you want a loud horn. No idea where he got the longer wires for the coil or the length of em. I even yanked the center post that holds the coil - the shop did not want to do it but after reading and talking with guy around here I felt comfortable removening it.

Check out those jugs, I love the clean look!

if i remember this right from another threas it is possible to relocate the coil into the current horn cover, it just fits, and then you need to relocate the horn, which you can mount like the springer models had or where you were talking about moving the coil to.

However this does also require lengthing the wiring harness to the coil and getting shorter spark plug wires.

Nice Fatboy
I don't want to put the coil under the horn because I might remove it.
Can't put it in front of the splash guard because my fender is mounted to the swingarm and it would hit it.
I am going to put it under the gas tank.
