Thats why you hand tighten an oil filter, and not really that tight either..snug will do it. Good luck with it

I have never had a problem getting one off my bike.
But its not uncommon on cars and when I find one like that I use a screwdriver either through it.
Or put a flat blade on the bottom lip edge (inner part) and bang on it with a hammer.
It should dig in to the folded edge rotating the 'can' counterclockwise and off.

Insert screwdriver through side of filter with a hammer then twist, repeat if necessary. Caution: hammer + paint = pissed off.

Jam a screwdriver through it and then you have handle to give you leverage to turn the filter off.

I had this problem on my Ultra...take the Cooler lines & Colooler off to give you more room for leverage. Beware its messy!

I haven't had to use a screwdriver or strap wrench since I bought a pair of these

JD you get it off? I like the screw through the filter cap but I'd use 2 . Removing the cooler would be a last resort considering the hoses will probably tear when you pull 'em and then you'll have 2 issues 8(

i'm getting ready to head to sear to get a new strap wrench (mine was a craftsman that broke so they better replace it for free) i'm going to try the strap wrench 1st (but with the oil cooler i'm not sure it's going to work) they probably try drilling 2 little holes in the oil filter cap and put 2 screws into the cap into the filter itself. i really like that idea. i'll let you know what ends up working.
