Hey guys I just order a progressive 422s,I cant wait until I put them on my bike,I hope I will not be disappointed,do I need any special tools to do this job ?
The service manual calls for a Snap-On torque adapter to gain access to the shoulder bolt. I've heard of people shortening an box end wrench to get r done.. Here is a link to the tool so you can see what it is.I just won one on ebay for 17 bucks.. Now I just have to get the 422's.. http://buy1.snapon.com/catalog/item....3&group_ID=636
weal If i can make a parts for a space shuttle at work ,I should be able to tackled this to,wish mi luck.
but post some pictures if you have from work in progress...
Here are some pics. I used automotive stands to hold the bike up. I removed the Sears Yellow jack in the pics below once I got the bike in the air. If you were ever careful in life do it now and don't do anything to throw the bike off the stands. Have a floor jack under the rear tire to adjust the up and down of the swingarm. Have a friend help steady the bike also.
The front tire was on a home made wooden ramp I made, for extra safety.
Here are the pics also of how to lock 2 wrenches together for more leverage.

I didn't use any special tools. It was all pretty easy after breaking the bolts loose at the swingarm. I had to use my foot to push on that one. They are tight! It is well worth it. You will love the ride and the new stance. Lowering the back, adding forward control extensions, and a solo seat are probably my three favorite mods.
Sash, to make this job easier after you have your shocks unbolted jack the tire up into the fender. The old shocks will almost fall out, and you can install the new 422's easily. Lower the tire back down and install the bolts and your practically done. There, is no reason you should have to twist, pull, yank, cuss, or hammer on the shocks.
