Yes, this will be sufficient to release the ECM during tune flashing.
The red hue is very bright isn't it. I do know a few guys that have put 3/4 moon or a full moon gray tint on the glass, what translucency or tint # was used I don't know. Since this is a new unit available this year I'm not sure if a voltage resistor insertion would be a good idea on the LED circuit. Maybe someone else could make a suggestion.

Yes, I find the unit itself is fine but the reflection off the windshield is a bit distracting at night as it makes a red band just below my line of vision. I think I will try some tinting on the speedo glass for the time being, thanks for the suggestion.
Anyone plug this speedo in with a Thundermax ECM? I imagine it should work fine since its a stock oem plug-in. Just wondering though... You know how "should-a-work" goes.

There is an owner of a 2010 ConV that has the TMax installed and it hasn't given him any reported trouble. The stock ConV was the first with this speedo.
I was wanting to purchase this for my 2007 (plan to do so even though), couldnt figure out why my softail wasnt listed as an application, it still plugs in, just has the added feature of fuel/mileage remaining...........we will see I guess. Dealer and I went through as much wiring as we could think of, and examined plugs.......SHOULD work.......(famous last words)
did it work on you 07 , i would like to get one for my07 night train
Does this speedo/tach have the green 6 on it that lights? From the picture it looks like it does not.
Yes, it has the 6th gear light.
However some Dyna and Softail models, when using a tuner, the 6th gear light will stop working. The only tuner that can fix the 6th gear light issue is the TTS. Primary Ratio constant must be changed to 1.330 or lower.
The 2011 CVO Convertibles come with cruise now so this speedo has the cruise light too.
I ordered the 74717-10 from Chicago HD for $239. I gave them the milage that I guessed I would be at by the time it arrived. My guess came within 10 miles. (Good thing it rained for a solid week, LOL)
CHD got it from Harley in 10 (business) days, then 2 (business) days to ship. Calendar days 19... ordered on July 9th. Recieved July 28th.
Install was about 15 minutes....the rubber o-ring slowed me down...put a little hand soap on it and the new speedo slid right in.
I run a Thundermax w/ Autotune so I "re-initialized" it after install since I pulled the ECM fuse and disco'ed the battery.
Reconnected everything and she lit right up. After a quick check of the lights and signals... I fired it up.
The Tacho jumped and settled just under the 1000 RPM mark. Which is correct since I know the TMax is set to idle at 960. Speedo has a Clock, Trip A, Trip B, ODO and "RANGE - Miles to Empty." Engine and security lights function as designed.
I was pleasantly surprised to see the "Range" actually working. Since installing the TMax on the "stock" speedo....range vanished.
I only drove for a few miles but all seemed good. Will put some more miles on it this weekend and update.
